Former Seekonk Speedway Youth Racing Association champion Brit Andersen of Branford, CT returned to the Cement Palace for the first time in two years on Saturday, and came away with top honors in the inaugural USA Northeast Ford Focus Series 25-lap feature.  Thirteen of the crate-motor powered, 178 horsepower open-wheeled machines turned out for the initial Focus show. , with 21-year old Stephanie Stevens claiming the win in heat one.  Andersen’s Citrix-sponsored #70 handily captured the second 8 lapper, setting the stage for the big dance.

Ryan Smith spun in turn one on the very first go-around, necessitating a complete restart.  When the green was unfurled again, New York native Mike Sboro, now residing in Mooresville, NC, made a sparkling three wide maneuver to climb from fifth to first.  Steven quickly advanced to second and had already passed Sboro by the time the second and final caution displayed for a minor spin on lap 7.

In accordance with the series rule, the field now restarted in single file order with Stevens leading Sboro, Nick Wean, Dana Messier and Andersen, who had started eight.  Stevens and Sboro ran first and second for the first 14 laps while Andersen steadily progressed via the bottom groove.  With 10 laps to go, Brit took second from Mike and set his sights on the leader.  Two laps later, the 2002 Seekonk champion took the lead and never let up until the checkers had waved.  The win was the seventh of Andersen’s career at Seekonk Speedway and second in the touring Focus class.  Stevens finished second, followed by Sboro, Jeff Abold and Dana Messier.
